An 8th grade ELA teacher at Sevier County Junior High has been terminated by the district and is facing several charges, including statutory rape by an authority figure, after she was accused of inappropriate actions involving students.

Ashley Palmer, 42, was arrested by the Sevierville Police Department (SPD) on Friday, Dec. 19, and is facing four different charges, two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two charges of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.

Court records specify that exploitation charges stem from sexual photos or videos sent by Palmer to at least one underage boy over Snapchat. These communications were reportedly exchanged with one boy from July to December 2025 and between August to December 2025 with the other. Both minors were confirmed to be students within the Sevier County School System (SCSS).

The records also say that for both statutory rape charges, there was “more than one instance of sexual intercourse” with the underage boys occurring between July and December of 2025.

In a statement issued last Friday, SCSS said administrators were notified on Thursday, Dec. 18, of “allegations of inappropriate activities” between Palmer and a student. School officials immediately reported the allegations to law enforcement and assisted in connecting potential witnesses with investigators.

SCSS Superintendent Stephanie Huskey initially wrote that Palmer was “placed on suspensions status” by the next morning and would “remain on an indefinite suspension as this process plays out”. But another statement by Huskey on Monday following Palmer’s arrest confirmed the district’s issuance of “Charges of Dismissal” for Palmer.

“The Sevier County School System promptly reports all allegation of potential abuse including those of a sexual nature to proper authorities, and, having done so in this instance, we have and will continue to cooperate fully with police agencies as they seek to resolve this matter. As required by state statute, Mrs. Palmer’s suspension and dismissal are in the process of being reported to the Tennessee Board of Education. Our deepest sympathies are with those who are affected by these events,” read the second statement.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, Palmer was shown to be in custody at the Sevier County Jail without a bond posted, but a search of inmate records no longer lists her as of Monday, Dec. 22, meaning she could have been arraigned and out on bond.
